This is a quick and extremely gentle treatment, performed immediately after the hygiene treatment. Individual teeth can become discoloured due to their improper endodontic (i.e. root canal) treatment, dental pulp disease, the use of pastes containing dyes to fill the canal. Before bleaching a dead tooth, it is important to ensure that the endodontic treatment has been carried out correctly (an x-ray of the tooth is taken for this purpose), if not – the correct endodontic treatment should be carried out.
At the appointment, access to the tooth cavity is created and the bleach (hydrogen peroxide or urea) is then introduced into the tooth chamber. The tooth is protected with a temporary filling and the whitening agent remains in the tooth for 2 to 7 days or until the patient notices that the tooth is significantly lighter than the neighbouring teeth (a satisfactory result may appear even after a few hours). If there is insufficient whitening effect after 7 days, the treatment should be repeated. The bleaching agent can be applied up to 4 times.
According to scientific data, whitening of dead teeth achieves the desired result in about 50% of cases, so we cannot say that this method of whitening will always be effective. As for the effect – we can enjoy it for up to three years.
It is carried out independently by the patient at home. It involves placing custom-made trays (whitening trays) containing a whitening gel on the teeth. This activity should be repeated systematically over a period of 10-14 days to obtain visible results. This method is more time-consuming and requires a great deal of patient self-discipline. It produces satisfactory results lasting up to three years. The overlays can be used repeatedly, simply by purchasing a whitening gel, of course after prior consultation with your dentist or hygienist.
After completion of whitening in the surgery as well as at home, it is necessary, indeed mandatory, to maintain a white diet for a period of 7-14 days.
For a better and longer-lasting whitening effect, a professional hygienization procedure(teeth sandblasting, tartar removal, fluoridation) should be performed before the treatment itself – preferably a few days before the planned procedure
It is also worth mentioning that after the whitening treatment, regular (at least once a year) teeth cleaning by means of the office method is recommended – it will allow you to enjoy the whiteness of your teeth for longer.
