Endodontics – root canal treatment

The field of medicine, including dentistry, is rapidly evolving, offering numerous methods to eliminate or alleviate pain. There are different techniques for administering anaesthesia, such as epidural, regional, intrathecal and intrathecal to ensure patient comfort. The priority at Dental Medicenter is to ensure the painlessness of each procedure, however, sometimes the effect of anesthesia may be weakened due to the presence of inflammation or hypersensitivity in the patient.

The duration of endodontic treatment is variable and depends on many factors. The anatomy of the teeth is crucial here, as some teeth have more canals than others, which can prolong the healing process.

At Dental Medicenter, endodontic treatment is performed using a Carl Zeiss microscope, which ensures extreme precision and accuracy in every stage of the procedure. Our main aim is to provide the highest quality of care.

A cofferdam is a rubber or latex cover – or barrier – used by dentists and dental hygienists during various dental procedures. It is a tool used to isolate the working area in the patient’s mouth, protecting it from saliva, blood, bacteria and other substances that can infect the treatment area.

The alternatives to root canal treatment are tooth extraction or prosthetic treatment, such as the use of implants or bridges. Thus, the main advantage of endodontic treatment is the preservation of complete dentition. Dental deficiencies can affect the entire structure of the oral cavity, causing significant changes. Properly performed root canal treatment allows you to keep the treated tooth for many years to come.

Implants

Dental implants are an effective and permanent option for replacing lost teeth. They are artificial roots that are implanted in the jaw bone at the site of the missing tooth. Once implanted, the bone fuses to the implant in a process called osteointegration, making the implant a permanent and stable support for a dental crown or prosthetic bridge. At Dental Medicenter, we use the highest quality implants.

The treatment is performed in three steps:

  • implantation,
  • inserting a healing scr
  • fixing the crown.

Whether implants are the right solution for a particular patient depends, among other things, on the quality and quantity of bone in the jaw and mandible. At Dental Medicenter, at the treatment planning stage, we perform appropriate examinations for the patient, such as CT scans, to accurately assess the bone conditions associated with the implant procedure. If we find an insufficient amount of healthy bone, an additional treatment may be necessary, in which we have extensive experience – bone regeneration before the implant is inserted.

The insertion of an implant is often a less invasive procedure than the removal of a tooth, and can therefore be carried out under local anaesthetic. In addition, a prophylactic dose of antibiotic is given to the patient before the procedure itself to minimise any discomfort after the procedure.

Reconstruction of the tooth crown takes place at least 12 weeks after implant placement. Temporary crowns are also an option during the implant healing process.

Dental implants, which are implanted in the bone of the jaw or maxilla, are not visible to the naked eye. The part of them that protrudes above the surface of the gum is fixed under a crown or other prosthetic element that is adapted to the shape and colour of the natural teeth. As a result, the implants are virtually invisible against the rest of the dentition.

After the procedure, it is recommended to avoid eating and drinking for at least two hours, as the post-surgical wound creates favourable conditions for the proliferation of bacteria.

Implants are a completely safe solution. At Dental Medicenter, we use only the highest quality, premium implants, which guarantee a very high success rate of up to 98%. They are a perfect replica of our natural teeth and will retain their functionality for a long time, provided they are taken care of regularly. Therefore, we recommend systematic follow-up visits to ensure their long-term durability and health.

Implantology is a separate specialization in dentistry, so it is important that the doctor has appropriate qualifications and experience in this area.

Such a solution is possible, but it is always subject to assessment by a doctor. Implant specialists suggest waiting around 7-10 weeks to allow for full bone regeneration and gum healing before making this decision.

If the treatment process has been carried out correctly, the longevity of the implants is now only up to the patient. Good habits and good oral hygiene, as well as regular check-ups, are key to ensuring the longevity of the implants.

Prevention

To keep your smile healthy and beautiful, it is worth following a few rules. First of all, because prevention is usually cheaper and more pleasant than treatment. Here are the basic rules of oral hygiene:

  • Regular dental and hygiene check-ups (at least every 6 months).
  • Brush teeth at least twice a day – in the morning and in the evening (for about 2-3 minutes). After eating acidic foods, it is recommended to wait 30 minutes for the pH to stabilise.
  • Ensuring effective cleaning of interdental spaces with floss, irrigators or interdental brushes.
  • Cleansing the tongue of deposits using special cleansers.
  • Oral rinsing as an additional support for hygiene.
  • Chewing sugar-free gum between meals.

Regular dental check-ups every six months are recommended for adults, while children should visit the dentist at least once every three months. During these visits, the doctor assesses the condition of the teeth, gums and oral mucous membranes. The dentist will also check the teeth for tartar and plaque build-up and remind you how to properly care for the oral hygiene. Systematic checks not only save time and money, but also protect the patient against painful procedures.

A hygienist visit at least once every 6-12 months is recommended.

Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics is the area of dentistry that deals with the restoration of missing teeth. The main aim of prosthodontics is to restore the patient’s complete dentition and aesthetic smile, while ensuring the correct function of the dental organs.

Veneers are delicate ceramic trays that are permanently affixed to the patient’s teeth, usually those located at the front of the mouth. They provide an innovative and safe method of correcting the shape and colour of teeth, while preserving the natural structure of the dentition. They are performed in specialised prosthetic laboratories and can significantly improve the aesthetics of a patient’s smile in a short period of time.

During the prosthodontic consultation, the practitioner carries out a thorough clinical examination and takes specialised images such as OPG or an intraoral scan. This is essential in order to create a personalised and tailored treatment plan for the patient’s needs and situation. Before the prosthodontics consultation, the patient is asked to complete a history based on the Kois protocol.

The Kois’ interview is a detailed set of dental questions that helps the dentist to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the patient’s oral health. It is a set of questions and information collected to understand the patient’s general health, medical history, hygiene habits, current dental complaints and previous treatments. It helps to create a personalised treatment plan

First visit

The first visit to the dentist is recommended when the child reaches around 2 years of age, but it is worth considering even earlier, before specific dental treatment needs arise. Such a check-up is important because it allows dentists to check the development of teeth, the state of occlusion and assess the risk of caries from an early age. It is worth ensuring that your child’s first visit to the dentist is a positive experience, so prepare your little one for this encounter.

Yes, there are no contraindications to eating and drinking before the visit. It is also worth mentioning that our patients can enjoy access to cold and hot drinks just before their appointment and have the opportunity to refresh their mouth in our toilet.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening carried out professionally by experienced dentists is safe and effective. There are many methods for whitening teeth, but only professional medical whitening is considered effective and non-threatening.

Regular oral hygiene helps prevent tooth decay, but has no effect on the colour of your teeth, no matter what toothbrush you use.

There are three different methods of tooth whitening available at Dental Medicenter: overlay whitening, in-office whitening and overlay-in-office whitening. Choosing the best method depends on the individual patient’s preferences. If you want fast results and immediate whitening of your teeth, in-office whitening is the best option. If you have more time and prefer a more controlled process, we can recommend the overlay method or the office-overlay method.

The teeth whitening process at Dental Medicenter is available in three different options:

  • In-office whitening: one visit lasting approximately 75 minutes.
  • Overlay whitening: two visits:
    • The first involves taking impressions that will be used to create the overlays,
    • The second includes the handover of the trays and instruction on the whitening process.

  • Office-inlay whitening: two appointments:
    • The first is the taking of impressions for overlays and exposure,
    • The second is the handover of the trays and instruction on the whitening process.

Whitening toothpaste can clean plaque from deposits, but it is not a method of changing the colour of the enamel. Teeth whitening can give the effect of a lighter shade by several tones from the natural colour. Even the strongest whitening pastes will not achieve this result.
